The Nyiragongo Volcano, situated 20kms/12miles north of Goma, is one of Africa’s most active volcanoes. The hike to the summit (alt. 3,470m/10,410ft) involves walking through lush forest and lava fields to reach the edge of a 1.2km/0.7miles wide crater and a magnificent lava lake.

Day1: Kigali-Congo
In the morning hours, the guide & Staff from Rwanda car rental will be ready at your hotel to start the drive journey from Kigali to goma with simple stop over for photos and lunch reach gisenyi in the evening hours dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu water front breach. Enjoy a beautiful drive through the land of a thousand hills to reach Gisenyi the largest port on Lake Kivu.
Day2: Bukima Gorilla trekking
Early in the morning take 2 hours drive down to bukima which is the starting point for gorilla trekkers in Virunga National Park, Also expect to see a lot of bird species and other primates such as the Golden Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Black and White Columbus monkey, and giant forest hogs among others. Return to your hotel for dinner and relax in Bukima Tented Camp. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day3: Goma visit & Hike Nyiragongo volcano
Early morning after breakfast you will be taken around Goma, visit to the green lakes in Sake about 15km from Goma town. You will see how lava covered almost half of the town in 2002. By 10:00 am, you will be driven to Kibati the base of Mt. Nyiragongo one of the active volcanoes. Once at the base, you will be briefed and by 10:30am you will start your trek to the volcano. Nyiragongo is 3470m and it takes between 5 to 6 hrs to get to the top. At the top, it’s all camping and a field pit latrine for nature’s call. At night, you will be able to see the boiling magma and take good pictures. Overnight Camping at the top of the volcano, meal plan: F/B
Day4: Nyiragongo- Goma
Early morning, you descend at the base at Kibati by 10:00am .You will be picked at Kibati and transfer to the hotel for lunch. After lunch we shall cross to Gisenyi in Rwanda and relax at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel beach (with a beautiful view of Lake Kivu). Dinner and overnight at Serena Lake Kivu, meal plan: F/B
Day5: Departure
Early morning after breakfast, travel back to Kigali for onward flight. While in Kigali, you can visit the Genocide memorial site depending on your flight schedule or stay one extra day and enjoy the beauty of Kigali one of the cleanest cities in Africa.
